19/06/2010 we welcome MILES AWAY Perth 5-piece Miles Away are set to confirm their standing at the top of the hardcore heap with their awe-inspiring third album, Endless Roads. The culmination of eight years of hard work, heartache and good times, Endless Roads is the sound of a passionate, road-hardened band at the height of their powers. “We’ve all matured and that’s come through in our writing,” says MA guitarist Adam Crowe. “This time we set out with different intentions for each song. We wanted some short, fast songs, some heavier songs and also some epic, drawn-out songs…” This newfound sophistication is evident right from the chiming punk chords that kick off the album’s intro track, “Hibernation”, which then plunges into the familiar full-force hardcore of “Seasonal”. Advance single “Ghostwriter” is a hardcore punk anthem where mosh parts and gang vocals sit perfectly alongside melodic punk rock riffs and hook-laden choruses. Written last year during some rare downtime, Endless Roads was recorded in early 2010 at Wild Arctic studios in New York by producer Dean Baltulonis (Sick Of It All, American Nightmare, The Hold Steady, Brand New), whose insider knowledge of hardcore coupled with supreme sound-pulling skills brought out the very best in Miles Away’s old school meets-new school sound. Endless Roads is the sound of a passionate, road-hardened band at the peak of their powers. While the title is an obvious reference to the band’s non-stop touring ethic, the concept goes far beyond the clichéd sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll mythos most people associate with life on the road. According to Adam, the lyrics focus just as much on the downside of leading such a nomadic existence – feelings of disconnection, sacrifice and regret. “Touring is a big part of our lives,” he explains, “And while that’s all mostly positive, it can be somewhat negative as well. Spending so much time on the road you start to lose contacts, relationships start to fade and your old friends move on without you. I think that is something that comes through on Endless Roads.” The Endless Roads metaphor reaches its logical conclusion on the album’s epic final track, “Hearts And Minds”, which is all about seeking alternative paths in life. Essentially it’s a wake-up call to anyone stuck in a blinkered 9-to-5 existence. Miles Away have opened themselves up to the infinite possibilities, and the results are there for all to hear. Endless Roads will strengthen their position at the forefront of Australian hardcore, while at the same time enhancing their reputation as fast-rising stars of the international scene. Five songs were recorded at Sleepwalkers Studio in Sardinia, Italy with Gabriele Boi in March 2010 and mastered by Cult of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg. The S/T 7” featuring artwork from Black Sails Design is due to be released in the summer on Anchors Aweigh Records and will feature the three songs: Age of Enlightenment, Human, all too Human and New Old Wounds. 08/02/2010 BREAK EVEN JOIN ANCHORS AWEIGH Since forming in the suburbs of Perth in 2005, Break Even have endured almost every experience a young band can; the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
The former includes putting out 2 successful releases and touring the country countless times with some of the biggest names in local and international hardcore. The latter on the other hand, includes undergoing numerous lineup changes and on a greater scale, a tragedy in the death of a band member. In November 2008 Break Even experienced the unthinkable, when their guitarist Rowan Willoughby took his own life. Rowans untimely death took a toll not only on the members of the band, but with everyone in the hardcore community, leaving a giant question mark over the future of the band. After some time the 4 remaining members returned to the rehearsal studio to see if they could go on with what they’d come to know as Break Even. Out of this process came their debut album, The Bright Side. Aptly named, it's a story of birth and death and everything in between. Recorded in March at Reading Room Studios in Perth, it is an honest and passionate statement that was written to remember, to inspire and to never forget. Anchors Aweigh Records will be releasing The Bright Side in Europe as limited edition 12 " LP, in 2 different colored wax. To support the release the band set to embark on there first European Tour this april/ may on the Deez Nuts/ The Ghost Inside/ Awaken Demons tour. Catch Break Even from April 16th - May 23rd. 08/10/2009 DAGGERS join the family ! The latest addition to the Anchors Aweigh Roster is DAGGERS. Hailing from Belgium, this four headed monster set out to leave nothing but ashes & dust. Their debut full-length "Along The Acheron" is a bastard of full speed aggression lurking in the gloom to prepare for the final blow. Prepare to pay your last debt or bow down to the mercenary masses. With their raw and pissed off sound they wrecked several stages all over Europe. With 2 years of existence Daggers is a relative young band, yet they know what they are aiming for. Each show more souls gather at these intense live performances and Daggers have already proven to be one of the most promising Belgian hardcore bands of the moment. After their first collaboration with Ben Philips they now recorded their first full length with him. This new record turned out to be also an uncompromising and pitch black piece of dark thoughts. It will tear down all false hope the world is feeding on. “Along the Acheron” will be released in august on the mighty “Anchor Aweigh Records”, sharing the roster with other killer bands like Tortuga, Dead Swans, More Than Life…With this release the band is ready to take the next step up, a life dedicated to being on the road throughout Europe. 28/09/2009 BOYS OF THE SUMMER -Yo ! We're back from our summer break ( tour ) and as we expected we've got tons of work to do and need to get used to it again. Thanks to everyone who ordered our releases during the summer, we gonna keep our promises reganrding shipping times and any other pre order deal. Our tour ( Gk) was incredible and so was the More Than Life / DS one as far as I know so cheers for showing up / buying our merch / givin us a place to crash : we love touring ! As you can see we have a pretty new website up... we get tired easily and love changing stuff from time to time ( when it's possible). We realized any label in the world was using live pics as background so we decided to put some new ones up of our boys chilling out during their trips across the world.
